Team Interview - Luke Burden

Could you introduce yourself please? Name, Age, Where from….

My name's Luke Burden; I'm 26. I'm from Brittany, moved to Cornwall when I was 11.

How long have you been a Barber?

I've been a Barber since 2012.

Have you always been a Barber? If not, what other life experiences have you got?

I haven't always been a barber, had the chance to study music production and composition at Falmouth University.

What did you want to be growing up?

When I was young, I wanted to be either a landscaper, a pastry chef, or a film director.

What made you get into Barbering?

I was looking for work when I quit uni and eventually found an apprenticeship with Blackdog Haircutters; this is when I fell in love with Barbering.

What is your favorite cut to do?

That's a tough one! I'm all for alternative styles and making the most of what you have, but if I have to pick one it would have to be a long and tapered executive contour; it's traditional but can be worn in so many ways and grows out great too.

A most enjoyable aspect of your job?

The most enjoyable aspect about barbering is when the barbershop is buzzing with clients, solid cuts, and beers. I love making the clients feel a million dollars.

Would you recommend this career choice, and if so, do you have any advice for aspiring Barbers?

I wouldn’t recommend this to just anyone, you need a lot of patience and empathy as well as a solid back. To those wanting to be a barber, take the time to nail the fundamentals before trying to develop your style. Take time to listen, every barber has something to give and something to learn no matter their level.

Stay humble.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I see myself eventually opening a couple of shops in France, Spain or Italy.

If you could cut anyone's hair, alive or dead, who would it be?

Tough one! I'll go with Britney !
